river guide jeff 05-21-2019 5:34:58 PM CST River Report -- May 21 Bill R. from SE Pennsylvania put in a full day on the middle Allegheny, the first of a two-day outing. Good day with lots of smallies up to 18 inches and a couple nice 'eye. Most of them on Lake Fork Live Magic Shad swimbaits. A few on hair jigs. The bass bite has been good. I have a couple openings next week after the holiday weekend.
river guide jeff 05-18-2019 5:00:10 PM CST River Report -- May 18 With the Allegheny back down to a reasonable level regulars Tom S. and his son Ryan put in a full day. They put a nice bunch of smallmouth in the boat, including Tom's personal best smallie, 20.5 inches/4.4 pounds. Several nice walleyes, too. Got em on finesse tubes, Galida's Grubz, Lake Fork Live Magic Shad swimbaits, spinnerbaits, and hair jigs.

Challenging conditions with blustery, ever-changing weather, wind and a rapidly rising river. But everyone worked hard and put around 30 nice smallmouth in the boat up to 18 inches. A stiff wind made the finesse bite challenging in some spots but he worked hard and was rewarded with a nice mix of river smallies. The day also included a monster drum and nice northern.
river guide jeff 05-06-2019 5:28:46 PM CST River Report -- May 6 Larry L and his brother Bill came up from the Pgh area for a full day of chasing smallies. The brown bass were a little finicky today, biting light, but they worked hard a put some nice ones in the boat. A few walleyes, too. Everything today on Galida's Grubz, fished as both a jig in the slower sections, and as a soft swimbait in shallower, swifter areas. What a versatile bait!

After a slow first couple of hours the bite kicked in and they smoked 'em. Lots of smallies up to 19 inches and six bonus walleyes too. Hair jigs and Galida's Grubz put them in the boat.

Finesse tubes, hair jigs, Galida's Grubz, soft swimbaits. Water temp 45 degrees.
river guide jeff 04-27-2019 8:18:44 AM CST River Report -- April 26 Larry L. and his buddy John toughed out a challenging morning and put some nice smallmouth in the boat, the biggest being 20 inches. We finally threw in the towel when the sporadic rain and wind morphed into prolonged driving horizontal rain. Today's rain will have the Allegheny blown out again, likely through the middle of next week at least.

A great mix-bag day. Lots of smallies including several doubles. Walleyes and pike too. Smallmouth up to 18 inches. Walleye to 24 inches. Finesse tubes and Galida's Grubz. Water temp 51 degrees.

They enjoyed a couple doubles during the six hour outing. Finesse tubes, Galida's Grubz and hair jigs put them in the boat.
river guide jeff 04-12-2019 3:14:48 PM CST River Report -- April 12 Ben Statewicz and his father Harry put in a six hour shift before wind/rain/ and a touch of hail drove us off of the river early. Bass were a little more scattered today than in recent trips but they worked hard in windy conditions and put a nice bunch of fish in the boat, including several brutes up to 19.25 inches. Finesse tubes, Galida's Grubz and hair jigs all accounted for fish.

Big numbers of big smallies including the best one of the year so far, a 21 incher that pulled the scale down to five pounds even. Got most of them on Galida's Grubz. Some on hair jigs too. Water temp up to 50 degrees.

Lots of big smallies along with bonus walleye and northern pike. Finesse tubes and grubz. Water temp on the way up. River in great condition. I still have a couple weekday openings upcoming week.
river guide jeff 04-05-2019 5:00:24 PM CST River Report -- April 5 Had the pleasure of having fishing legend John Galida join me this morning during a very enjoyable outing. A pleasure swapping "war stories" with such a talented angler, one whose fishing career spans multiple decades. In between tales we managed to put a bunch of bruiser smallies in the boat along with three nice 'eyes. Got them on Z-Man Fishing Products TRD TubeZ, CrawZ. And of course the hot bait was the Galida's Grubz. Water temp 42 degrees. Bass are staging up as they move out of wintering areas. The next few weeks should be awesome.
river guide jeff 03-31-2019 4:33:19 PM CST River Report -- March 31 Great mid-morning to mid-afternoon trip with river smallmouth ace Eric Heil. A bunch of big smallmouth. Most from 15 to 20 inches. Only three or four less that 15. Z-Man Fishing Products TRD, TRD Tubez and Crawz were all hot. Nasty cold, windy day, but a big shout out to Simms Fishing Products for producing outstanding foul weather gear. The springtime bite is on! Lots of dates booked during the next few weeks but openings available too. Give me a shout to set up a trip!
river guide jeff 03-30-2019 6:38:36 PM CST River Report -- March 26 A productive late morning-to-mid afternoon scouting trip on the middle Allegheny for smallies. Got most of them on Z-Man Fishing Products finesse tubes. During the past week we've caught smallies in the Oil City, Parker and East Brady areas. River guide trips for smallies will begin in earnest in about a week. Lots of dates booked, but plenty of availability as of now.

river guide jeff 03-21-2019 5:04:56 PM CST River Report -- March 21 River smallmouth bass are starting to turn on. My buddy Art Hamley and I did a scouting trip on the middle Allegheny and boated over a dozen nice smallies and a couple dozen incidental walleyes. Bass up to 19 inches. Biggest walleye 25.5. Galida's Grubz Z-Man TRD Tubez, and Berkley Power Minnow/leadhead jig caught all of them. Water temp 39 degrees
river guide jeff 03-15-2019 9:13:22 AM CST River Report -- March 14 The last day of winter/river walleye fishing ended on a high note. Steve and Teresa came down from the Tionesta area hoping to pick up some tips they could use on their section of the Allegheny, and were pleased with the results. During a half day trip, from mid morning to mid afternoon to keep ahead of the wind and rain, we boated a dozen nice 'eyes up to 25 inches. The big females were released. They took home a single limit of males in the 16 to 18 inch range. Berkley Gulp Alive minnows tipped on leadhead jigs was the hot presentation.
river guide jeff 03-13-2019 8:24:04 PM CST River Report -- March 13 River walleye fishing is wrapping up for the winter as the season closes tomorrow night at midnight. Recent trips on the lower Allegheny have been slow, with a good bite at twilight. Today's trip on the middle Allegheny produced a bunch of nice 'eyes from 17 to 25 inches. One more guide trip tomorrow for river walleye, then we'll be switching to river smallies, and walleyes on Pymatuning and Mosquito.

river guide jeff 03-02-2019 12:07:15 PM CST River Report -- Most recent trips have been on the lower Allegheny River. Walleyes not as big as the ones getting recently on the middle Allegheny, but some good eatin' size 'eyes. A nice musky as well. Still a couple weeks left in walleye season. Weather looks cold through the upcoming week with things moderating Friday. Give me a shout if you're looking to get in a trip during the final days of walleye season, which will reopen early May.
river guide jeff 02-24-2019 6:40:48 AM CST River Report -- February 23 Longtime client Steve G. joined me for a half day morning walleye trip on the middle Allegheny. Despite having a cast on his right wrist he put a bunch of nice walleyes in the boat, as well as a 35 inch musky.
