River Report -- May 6 Back on the Allegheny after a week of high water put a temporary halt to the fishing. A good day. We boated 26 smallmouth bass. Most of the bass were in the 14 to 16 inch range, but we did get a few lunkers including the best of the year so far, a fat 21 incher. Also lost two small muskies. And boated a 27 inch walleye. Most of the fish on Texas-rigged tubes. A few on Rapala Husky Jerks. The river is still a bit high, but is dropping. Excellent water color. 50 degrees.

River Report -- April 20 On the Allegheny for the second time this spring. Last week's trip trip was a flush, as the river was still too high (due mostly to heavy releases from Kinzua Dam) for good fishing. What a difference a week can make! The river dropped a couple feet. A buddy and I did a scouting trip and caught and released 35 to 40 smallies in less than four hours. We hit perfect conditions, with multiple days of warm weather. All the bass on jerkbaits, Rapala Husky Jerk mostly. One walleye on a Jimmy D Riverbug. Looks like we're up and running.

River Report -- Oct 31 A good fall outing. We had to work for fish, but were rewarded with some nice ones. We boated around 25 smallies, and lost/missed a bunch. Throughout most of the day they were biting lightly, though we had a couple sprees where they jumped on baits. Today's most productive offering was Jimmy D's Riverbug. Also caught some on T-Rigged Yum Dingers, T-Rigged Zoom Speed Craws and Rapala Husky Jerks. Water 50 degrees, and up from last night's rain. Weeds and floating weeds hampered efforts in some areas.

River Report -- Oct 24 Big changes in river conditions during the past week. Water temperature down to 51 degrees, and about 1.5 feet higher than it's been. A very good day today. We boated around 50 smallmouth bass, along with two 20-inch walleyes. 75 percent of the bass were nice sized fish in the 14 to 18 inch range. Jigs were the ticket today, with tubes, hair jigs and jig-worms taking most of the fish. Anyone looking to do a late fall trip should consider setting one up within the next two to three weeks.

River Report -- Oct 8 A slow day today. Things started off decent, but we had to scratch and claw for fish after mid morning. Maybe it was the post cold frontal conditions. Anyway, we ended up with a dozen smallies and one nice walleye. On the plus side, four of the smallmouth were quality fish in the 16 to 19 inch range. Water temp was 64; slight color.

River Report -- Sept 17 Not a great day, numbers wise. We boated around 30 smallies during a full day trip, and lost several others. But some really nice fish. Biggest smallmouth was 19 inches. Three others 18 inches, and several others over 15 inches. And a few small ones. Water temperature 65 degrees, clear and low. River Report -- Sept 6 A good day. We boated 38 smallies and two nice walleyes. Most of the bass very quality-sized fish. A good number in the 15 to 17 inch range. Some floating weeds, but not enough to be a nuisance.

Back on the river after an extended Labor Day vacation. We had a decent half-day morning trip. Numbers down a bit -- around 15 to 20 smallies. But a few nice ones, including one of the guest's personal-best smallmouth, an 18-inch beauty. Water 72 degrees, slight color...a few floating weeds.

River Report -- August 22 40-some smallies today during a full day trip. Also two nice walleyes, and with a few little walleyes. We boated some nice smallmouth particularly in the afternoon (after things clouded up a bit). Still, a lot of dink-sized bass. X-Raps and Winco Solid Body River Darters. Water up to 78 degrees when we got off the water. Low and clear.

River Report -- August 21 Client and I worked hard this morning, for relatively meager return. We caught 15 to 20 smallies during a half-day morning trip, but a lot of dinks. A few decent ones landed. And a couple nice ones lost on jumps. Bright skies, no wind, and low/clear water likely didn't help the cause. Good news was no algae, and little problem with floating weeds. Water temp 73-75.

Water temp 67 in the morning; 71 by mid afternoon. Water was clear, with very little algae. Moderate amount of floating weeds.

River Report -- August 15 Back on the river today. The action was a little slower than that of the past month. Still, we boated around 35 smallies and one nice walleyes. Several quality-sized smallmouth up to the 18-19 inch range. All on XRaps. Water cooled down quite a bit following a cold night. 67 degrees this morning, but warmed up over the course of the day. Slight color. Some floating weeds and suspended algae.

Update -- I was off the river for a few days. Spending time at our camp in NW PA. Worked in some trout fishing for native brookies. Had a great time. Lots of fish, and some nice ones over 10 inches. All on small streamers.

Kahle Report -- Aug 5 My guests combined for a catch of 20-some largemouth during a four-hour half-day morning trip to Kahle Lake. Kahle's weedbeds have diminished during the past couple of weeks, likely due to decreased light penetration from a fairly heavy algae bloom. If the pattern of prior year's holds, the weeds will "green up" again come fall when the water cools/clears. Nearly all of today's fish were taken on Winco's River Darter fished near shore.
