River Report -- July 17 Muddy conditions hampered fishing this morning, much dirtier than trip of two days ago. We boated eight smallies during a half day AM trip. Two were in the 18 to 19 inch range. Spinnerbaits, tubes, Winco River Darter and X-Rap. Water temp 69 degrees and muddy.

River Report -- July 15 Another good day on the Allegheny. We boated 30 smallmouth bass and lost another dozen. Also boated two nice walleyes. Several of the bass in 15 to 17 inch range. Tubes, jig-worm, X-Raps and Winco River Darter. Water temp 71 degrees, murky, and on slight rise due to overnight storms.

River Report -- July 14 A fairly productive day. We boated 25 smallies and lost/missed a few others. Seven of the bass in the 17 to 19 inch range, along with several other nice ones. Most of the fish on Texas-rigged tubes, some on Winco River Darters and X-Raps. Water slowly dropping (though thunderstornms moving through this evening might change this); 72 degrees.

Fishing Report July 11 and 12 -- River fishing was slow the morning of July 11. After boating only three bass in the first 2.5 hours we moved to Kahle. The action was also slow at Kahle, which was experiencing a mild algae bloom. We boated a half-day largemouths and lost a few others. The river smallies were nice size -- up to 16 inches. Terminator spinnerbaits, and one on Winco River Darter. All of the Kahle bass on Texas-rigged tubes.
July 12 was spent on the Allegheny, with better results. During a six-hour trip we boated 15 smallmouth and three nice walleyes. Most of the bass were quality-sized -- up to 18 inches. Texas-tubes, Rapala X-Raps, Winco River Darters and Terminator spinnerbaits all took bass. The walleyes, which ran from 18 to 22 inches were all on spinnerbaits. River still about two feet above average, murky, but clearing. 70 degrees.

Fishing Update -- The heavy rains of June wiped out river fishing and forced many cancellations/reschedules. Kahle Lake filled in the void to an extent. As of late June, though, Kahle was loading up with algae, which typically results in some heavy blooms. Late June/early July trips included productive outings on Keystone for largemouth bass; Pymatuning walleye; and finally back on the river for smallies. Trip of July 3 saw the river still high (7 feet at USGS Parker gauge; 2 to 3 feet is average for this time of year) and dirty. We managed some nice smallmouth, but not high numbers. All on spinnerbaits. The Allegheny should be in nice shape within a few days if the significant rainfall does not return.

River Report -- June 5 Slow day on the middle Allegheny. My clients wanted to target walleyes part of the day. We managed to boat two nice'eyes and lost one other. Bass were tough, probably in the annual post-spawn funk. Managed around a half dozen smallies up to 17 inches. Most of the bass on Terminator spinnerbaits. Walleyes on Rapala Husky Jerks. Water temp 67 degrees, cloudy and about 1.5 feet above average for this time of year.

Fishing Report -- May 26 We did a split trip today. Boated around 50 largemouth bass during the morning session on Kahle Lake. Most of them small, but a half dozen in 15 inch-plus range. Winco Wacky Worms and Winco River Darters. During the afternoon we boated a dozen smallies. Nine of them were 15 to 18 inches. We also missed a bunch, as the wind picked up and made detecting light hits difficult. All of the river smallies on Winco River Darters. River temp 67 and clear.

River Report -- May 24 A slow morning gave way to decent action during the second half of a full day trip on the Allegheny. We boated around 20 smallies and lost several others. Most of the bass quality-sized ones in the 15 to 19.5 inch range. All of the fish on Winco River Darters. Water temp 59 to 63 degrees.

Kahle Report -- May 23 A slower morning on Kahle, likely due to the drop in water temperature brought on by two cold nights. We boated around 20 largemouth during the four-hour outing. Winco River Darters.

Fishing Report -- May 19 Another productive split trip. This afternoon we boated 21 smallies and lost a few others. A few smaller bass, but most were quality-sized smallmouth, including two 19 inchers. All on Winco's River Darter and Winco's Wacky Worm. During the morning session we boated between 40 and 50 largemouth bass on Kahle Lake. River Darters, Wacky Worms and Rapala X-Raps.

Fishing Report -- May 16 We did a split trip today fishing Kahle in the morning and the Allegheny during the afternoon. At least 40 largemouth bass on Kahle. The river produced around 15 smallies. Winco Wacky Worms on Kahle; Winco River Darters on the Allegheny.

River Report -- May 7 Numbers starting to come up. We boated around 15 smallmouth during a four-hour half-day evening trip. A couple in the foot-long range. All others 14 to 18.5 inches. Winco River Darters and Winco Wacky Worms. Water temp up to 64 degrees thanks to the spell of 80 degree weather; and clear. All of the bass near on on spawning flats.

River Report -- May 1 Another day where the story was quality but relatively low numbers. We boated/near-boated 10 nice smallmouth bass and two walleyes. The bass were in the 14 to 19 inch range. All were near spawning flats. Water temp 54 degrees and slightly stained. Winco River Darters and Rapala Husky Jerks.

River Report -- April 30 We boated a half-dozen smallmouth bass and one small northern pike during a half-day four-hour morning trip. All of the bass were quality-sized bass in the 14 to 19 inch range. Case tubes and Winco River Darters. Water temp 51 degrees and slightly stained.

River Update -- late April After another long winter we're finally back on the water. The bass fishing has been slow. Some nice fish during my first two "scouting" trips but low numbers. Water -- as of this report -- is still cold (48). Things should pick up soon with warmer weather and stable river conditions in the forecast. I'd expect smallies to be in pre-spawn patterns soon.

River Report -- Jan 24 Back on the Allegheny for the first time since the big freeze that locked up much of the river in ice. A slow day, perhaps included by the clear water what was 31 to 32 degrees was well as the sunny skies. But we did get one nice 23 inch walleye, was well as a couple nice yellow perch.

Lower Allegheny River -- I was able to get out on the lower Allegheny a couple times during mild weather over the holidays. Managed quite a few walleyes, including a couple fish in the 27 and 28 inch range, egg-laden females that were returned to the water after a quick photo. Water temp 33 degrees. Jig-n-minnow, jigging spoon and blade bait.

River Report -- Dec 14 A buddy and I fished the East Brady -- Parker stretch this afternoon. We boated a half-dozen walleyes. All but one (which was sublegal) in the 18 to 23 inch range. Jig-worm, jig--minnow and tubes. Water temp 37 degrees, perfect color and flow.

River Report -- Back on the river today following a period that included several aborted trips due to ice in river and also high water. With the water temperature in the 36 to 37 degree range I figured the bass bite is likely over, unless we get a period that includes multiple days of unseasonably warm weather. We did manage to get on smallie in the 18 inch range, as well as five walleyes. All the walleyes were in the 14 to 16 inch range. Also one small northern pike. Case Plastic tubes mostly, with a couple on the hair jig and Galada's Grubz. Water slightly high and off-color.

River Report -- Nov 15 Big change in the weather from a few days ago, when it was pushing 70 degrees. The big cool down dropped the water temperature 8 degrees, from 49 to 41. Bass were still farily cooperative, though. My clients boated 15 to 20 smallies during a four-hour morning trip. Also a nice muskie in the low 30 inch range. Everything on Case Plastic tubes and Galida Grubz.

River Report -- Nov 11 A good fall outing today. We fished from late morning until nearly dark, boating around 30 to 35 smallmouth bass and two walleyes. Biggest bass 18.5 inches. Highlight of the trip was a 29 inch walleye. Texas-rigged tubes and hair jigs, both bucktails and rabbit fur jigs. Water temp 48 degrees and slightly stained.

River Report -- Nov 8 Things started off slowly during a half-day trip that ran from mid morning until early afternoon. Water temperature dropped a couple degrees overnight. But the action progressively picked up during the outing. We ended up with around 30 smallies up to 18 inches, and a 28 inch walleye. Some on hair jigs, but most of them on Texas-rigged Case Plastics tubes. Water temperature 47 degrees, great color and flow.

River Report -- Nov 7 Today was a great example of what fall fishing on the Allegheny can be like, in terms of both fish activity and weather. During an eight hour trip that concluded at dark, we had wind, rain, snow, sleet and some sunshine. We also caught at least 65 smallmouth bass, four walleyes and a northern pike. The biggest smallie was 20 inches. Many in the 15 to 19 inch range. Only two or three less than 12 inches. Walleyes 20 to 24 inches. Everything on jigs -- hair jigs and jig-and-plastic worm combo. Water level and color perfect. 49 degrees.
