River Report -- Sept 17 Not a great day, numbers wise. We boated around 30 smallies during a full day trip, and lost several others. But some really nice fish. Biggest smallmouth was 19 inches. Three others 18 inches, and several others over 15 inches. And a few small ones. Water temperature 65 degrees, clear and low. Some floating weeds, but not overwhelming like some days the past couple of falls. X-Raps and Winco's River Darters.

River Report -- Sept 6 A good day. We boated 38 smallies and two nice walleyes. Most of the bass very quality-sized fish. A good number in the 15 to 17 inch range. (fish in the photo were released after picture was taken) Very few dinks. Walleyes were 18 and 19 inches. Most of today's fish on Winco's River Darter. Water low, clear and 70 degrees. Some floating weeds, but not enough to be a nuisance.

Back on the river after an extended Labor Day vacation. We had a decent half-day morning trip. Numbers down a bit -- around 15 to 20 smallies. But a few nice ones, including one of the guest's personal-best smallmouth, an 18-inch beauty. Water 72 degrees, slight color...a few floating weeds.

River Report -- August 22 40-some smallies today during a full day trip. Also two nice walleyes, and with a few little walleyes. We boated some nice smallmouth particularly in the afternoon (after things clouded up a bit). Still, a lot of dink-sized bass. X-Raps and Winco Solid Body River Darters. Water up to 78 degrees when we got off the water. Low and clear.

River Report -- August 21 Client and I worked hard this morning, for relatively meager return. We caught 15 to 20 smallies during a half-day morning trip, but a lot of dinks. A few decent ones landed. And a couple nice ones lost on jumps. Bright skies, no wind, and low/clear water likely didn't help the cause. Good news was no algae, and little problem with floating weeds. Water temp 73-75.

Several quality-sized smallmouth up to the 18-19 inch range. All on XRaps. Water cooled down quite a bit following a cold night. 67 degrees this morning, but warmed up over the course of the day. Update -- I was off the river for a few days. Spending time at our camp in NW PA. Worked in some trout fishing for native brookies. Had a great time. Lots of fish, and some nice ones over 10 inches. All on small streamers.

Kahle Report -- Aug 5 My guests combined for a catch of 20-some largemouth during a four-hour half-day morning trip to Kahle Lake. Kahle's weedbeds have diminished during the past couple of weeks, likely due to decreased light penetration from a fairly heavy algae bloom. If the pattern of prior year's holds, the weeds will "green up" again come fall when the water cools/clears. Nearly all of today's fish were taken on Winco's River Darter fished near shore.

River Report -- July 26 Another outstanding day on the Allegheny. 61 smallmouth bass landed. A half dozen in the 16 to 18 inch range, along with a bunch of feisty 12 to 14 inchers that fight like mad in the warm water. X-Raps and Winco's River Darters took most of the fish. A few on Winco's Darter Swimbait. Water level up just a bit from Tuesday's trip; a slight stain. Water temp 75 degrees.

River Report -- week of July 1 During a week that originally had five bookings, we only managed to fish on Monday and Friday, due to the continuing rash of rain/storms that raise the Allegheny beyond fishable levels. Today's trip produced 15 to 20 smallies, most of them between 15 and 18 inches. Also one nice walleye. All of the fish on spinnerbaits. River is 3 to 3.5 feet above average summer levels, murky, and 70 degrees.

River Report -- June 23 Client and I boated 31 smallmouth today, and lost another 10. Bigger fish bit well during the morning. My guest got a couple 18 inchers; I caught my best of the season, a 20.5. Things slowed a bit in the afternoon as the temperature soared, and the river got busy with boat traffic and canoeists. Rapala X-Raps took most of the fish. Also caught them on Winco's River Darters, spinnerbaits, inline spinners and soft swimbaits. Water level dropping and slowly clearing. Around 70 degrees.

Fishing Report -- June 21 We did a split day fishing Kahle in the morning and the Allegheny during the second session. Kahle was relatively slow -- by Kahle standards. We boated around 10 largemouth in three hours. Nice, chunky 14 to 16 inch fish. Most of them on a Texas rigged Yum Doozee. During the second shift we boated around a dozen smallies. Several quality fish, the biggest 19 inches. Most of the smallmouth on Terminator spinnerbaits. Water level a foot higher than summer norm, stained (but quickly clearing) and 70 degrees.

River Report -- June 19 The river's been a yo-yo lately, mostly on the high ebb. Back on it today after the latest period of high water. Slow morning, but things picked up in the afternoon. We didn't have a lot of action, but the bites we did have were the right ones. Boated around 15 smallies. All but two were in the 14 to 19 inch range. Everything on spinnerbaits. Water level up about two feet from normal summer flow; heavily stained, and 67 degrees.

River Report -- June 11 Did a half-day afternoon/evening trip today. River color was still stained, but the fishing was pretty good. We boated 20 to 25 smallmouth, most of them quality-sized smallies. Several in the 17 to 20 inch range. Most productive lures were Yum Houdini Shad and Winco's Predator Craws. Spinnerbaits also accounted for several bass. Water temp 66 degrees and about two feet above normal summer level.

Fishing Report -- June 5 Two of my regular clients did a Kahle/river split trip today. We caught 20 some largemouths on Kahle in the morning. Several nice fish in the two to three pound range. Our pm session to the river was my first in a week, since the the water has been very high and muddy recently due to heavy rain up the valley. Water was still quite stained. We boated around 10 smallies, and lost a couple others. Several nice smallmouth in 15 to 17 inch range. Kahle was 70 degrees and clear. Largemouth on Wacky Worms, Texas-rigged worms, and Winco Predator Craws. Allegheny was 66 degrees. Smallies on Wacky Worms and X-Raps.
